EXIDE TAKES CONTROL

Exide Australia’s decision to pump close to $7 million into the upgrade of their local manufacturing facilities is set to change the way the battery giant is seen in the region. Exide’s Australian operations are now totally responsible for the group’s Asia Pacific operations.

John Free has been appointed vice president sales & marketing Asia Pacific. He joins Exide with a global experience in the auto aftermarket and is now based in the company’s Melbourne head quarters for Asia Pacific. “The recent moves by Exide’s corporate office to both invest in Australian manufacturing and give us regional responsibility is a vote of confidence in our future performance,” Free said.

“This coupled with the release of our new high technology and price competitive battery range will enable Exide to move forward in its local business by both consolidating our excellent original equipment sales as well as increasing our significant share of aftermarket. And a large part of that also means increasing our management expertise, which we are also doing very quickly.

Free said Exide now has in place the product range and the service to grow their existing market share of Aftermarket sales and the way this will unfold in the immediate short term will very soon be seen.

“A case of hold onto your hats and watch this space, as we’ve got the strength and the position to move very quickly indeed.” Free said.
